CopyTrans does the trick
Iphone runing OS 4.1. Tried Mediamonkey 4.0.1 and Winamp, but unable to copy music to iphone without itunes. Copytrans 0.971 does it first time, no problem.

Tethering Problems
Had problems getting USB or bluetooth tethering to work. Turns out USB drive conflicts with tethering, so it needs to be disabled. Odd that this would affect bluetooth, but it must use the USB stack.
